The following policies apply to all classes held at Bead and Fiber:

A traditional technique with contemporary styling and materials. Small Glass seed beads are first strung on thread and the crocheted iwth a crochet hook to amake a bracelet that has flexibility, strength, and rolls on. The class is two sessions. In the first, you will learn how to crochet and in the second you will be instructed on starting and ending your work to form a continuous bracelet. For home work between the two classes, you will practice crocheting and stringing beads to bring with you to the second calass. You will be provided with a spool of thread that is already strung and started with enough beads to complete a bracelet.
Using contemporary technique, and modern styling, with leather and beads of your choice, create a unique and comfortable bracelet. Once you have learned the technique you may choose to take it to the next level on your own and make necklaces and / or wrap-around bracelets.
Students will learn how to create the Peyote stitch which can lead to a variety of jewelry making opportunities from rings to necklaces. In this class we will lean the basic stitch and apply it to making the Peaks and Valley bracelet by using a several different size seed beads. The class will include a brief introduction to seed beads and finishing techniques. Previous experience with the peyote stitch is helpful but not required.
Bring in those pieces you no longer wear and re-create them using your beads and others of your choice into beautiful jewelry that you will once again enjoy.

Using glass seed beads, needle and thread, you will astound yourself, and others, with a colorful and comfortable sollid rope, to which you will attach a clasp to complete your project.
Here's your opportunity to learn the basic techniques of bead stringing using nylon coated stainless steel wire and crimping to finish your piece. This class will include an introduction to beads, findings, tools, design and construction. During class, you will create a single strand bracelet.

Join us to learn this fun technique to create a contemporary glass seed bead bracelet, with your needle and thread as tools. You chose color way, either solid or multi color. You will learn how to attach a crimped clasp, and discover how excited you will be with your creation.
In this class we will explore the options beyond basic stringing to create a contemporary necklace that incorporates charms of your choosing. We will work with wrapping and other options for attaching pieces to your creations.
Ever wondered how to make beaded earrings? This class will introduce students to earring design and basic wire wrapping techniques. You will create a pair of earrings in class, great for adding to your own jewelry collection or for gift giving! A kit fee of $10 is payable to the instructor at the time of the class.
Vintage look, modern styling…using wire and beads of you choosing you will be happy to master this wrapping and stringing technique. In this class you will create 2 pieces to be incorporated into earrings or to become stunning pendants.
Learn this traditional art form in a new and contemporary medium. Lincoln Farm Design, as featured in the Boston Globe Magazine Design section, offers a portfolio of magical designs for rugs, pillows and pocketbooks. Each kit is created especially for you with the best wools and fabrics available today. Please view our web site, lincolnfarmdesign.com, to pick out a kit prior to the class. Also, hooks and frames will be available to purchase at the class if you do not already have them.
This class will start at the beginning with an introduction into how to dress the loom for weaving. Learn to thread the loom, slay the reed and tie onto the front beam in the first class. Once that is done, learn to read simple weaving patterns. You'll take the loom home with you to weave 39 different patterns for a wonderful twill sampler.
Kumihimo is a Japanese form of braid-making. Cords and ribbons are made by interlacing strands. Learn how to make braided bracelets and necklaces, for yourself or for friends. As always, examples are available in the store.
Building on your kumihimo skills, begin to incorporate beads into your braids.
This two day workshop teaches the beginning weave the basics of weaving. The loom will be all ready for you when you come to the first class. You'll learn the basics of the loom and how to weave those beautiful scarves that are so popular these days. Let us know the colors your like, and we'll have the loom ready for your first session.
At the end of the first session, you'll take the loom home with you to finish the project. The second session will focus on taking your woven piece off of the loom and finishing the ends with stylish fringes!

Students will learn how to create a beautiful 'Nuno Felt' (Nuno means fabric in Japanese). By manipulating a minimum amount of wool fiber through silk fabric you will make a felted fabric with characteristics quite different from traditional felt. Nuno felt is lightweight with drape and flexibility. There are many possibilities for transparency, exciting texture, conglomerate layering of materials with diverse characteristics, and thus great multiple dimensions. Students will create a lightweight three season scarf during class. Please be prepared to get wet, use your arms, and wear comfortable shoes!
NOTE: Classes will take place off-site at the teacher's studio in Somerville, MA. The address is 191 Highland Avenue, Somerville MA 02143 and the studio is in the basement. There is plenty of free parking in the rear of the building, which looks like a white castle and the driveway is on the right side of the building. The magic of Noro’s self-striping yarn + Entrelac = fabulous garments and accessories. Learn the basic Entrelac technique to create a textured pattern that resembles basket-woven strips of knitted fabric. Intermediate knitting skills required.

Join us for a casual and FREE drop in charity knitting night at BEAD + FIBER. Projects range from afghan squares for the Pine Street Inn to children’s hats and sweaters for Cradles to Crayons. Unravel the mysteries of sock knitting on double pointed needles. From cuff to toe we’ll knit our way through a basic sock pattern, and you will leave with one completed sock (fast knitters will begin a second sock). This class is appropriate for advanced beginners; experience knitting on double points is helpful.
No experience needed to explore crocheting a variety of materials including wire, hemp, and cord with which you can then chose to design your necklace. If you already know how to do basic crochet that will be a bonus. We will then consider our options as we incorporate beads into our designs. You will complete at least one necklace in this fun class.
Using metal wire, and an amazingly clever coiling tool, you will have so much fun creating unique hand made beads, in your choice of gauges and colors of wire. You may incorporate beads into your coils, may experiment with precious wires, and other unusal beads from our wide selection of beads to complete your project. Materials included in this class are non precious metal wire and cord to complete a necklace.

Description: This class covers the basics of working with wire: wire, tools, basic techniques, findings and tips for care and cleaning. By the end of class you will have created your first piece of wire wrapped jewelry.

Using fine wire and beads of your choice create a glamorous bracelet.
Using mesh wire you will create a one of a kind necklace, and earrings with a contemporary flair. The wire comes in a number of widths and colors with which you can begin your design. In this class you will also learn about findings, and discover that almost no tools are needed to construct your unique pieces.

Using metal stamps and hammers we learn the basics of stamping. Next we connect our metal pieces to other metal pieces using rivets and wire connection techniques. With our finished metal pieces we will make pendants which can be strung on cord, key chains and more.
Whether you have knitted with wire or not, or have earring making experience or not, this is a chance to experiment with wire and beads to create unique contemporary earring designs. Only very basic knitting skills are required. We will work with craft wire, however sterling and other precious metals wires will be available for future projects.
This class is for students who have taken my intro to wire wrapping class or who have experience working with wire.
It covers techniques needed to measure, design and shape a bracelet as well as wrapping to fill the structure with semi precious stones. By the end of class you will have created a lovely piece of wearable art! (sterling silver or 14k gold filled).

Learn the serti technique to create a stunning scarf in just one afternoon. The method involves drawing fine lines of gutta resist onto silk to outline your design. The lines stop the dyes from flowing into one another, which means that separate colored areas can be created. It is just like drawing an outline and then "coloring in". The possibilities are endless. These pieces make wonderful gifts to yourself or a friend and are absolutely art-to-wear! Beginner friendly.
