Students will learn how to create a beautiful 'Nuno Felt' (Nuno means fabric in Japanese). By manipulating a minimum amount of wool fiber through silk fabric you will make a felted fabric with characteristics quite different from traditional felt. Nuno felt is lightweight with drape and flexibility. There are many possibilities for transparency, exciting texture, conglomerate layering of materials with diverse characteristics, and thus great multiple dimensions. Students will create a lightweight three season scarf during class. Please be prepared to get wet, use your arms, and wear comfortable shoes!
Students will learn the basics of 3-d feltng while creating a beautiful felted flower to use as a brooch. This class is great for students who want an introduction to felting but do not know if they could handle the physicality of creating a full scarf. Please be prepared to get wet.
No previous polymer clay experience is necessary for this quick, fun workshop. Techniques covered include introduction to polymer clay, how to condition the clay, tools needed, making basic canes, discussion on surface treatments and texturing, using an extruder, stamps and texturing for decoration. Projects include making up beginner canes which include: Skinner Blending, jelly roll, stripes, extruded dots and an assortment of other simple canes. Students may want to bring lunch and a beverage for a short midday break. We will make a pair of earrings to take home as time permits. Students will be asked to bring at least six blocks of Premo Polymer Clay in the colors that they like. They should include black and white in the color selection. The student should also plan to bring a ruler, notebook and pencil and a plastic bin so that all unbaked clay can be carried home.
Learn the serti technique to create a stunning scarf in just one afternoon. The method involves drawing fine lines of gutta resist onto silk to outline your design. The lines stop the dyes from flowing into one another, which means that separate colored areas can be created. It is just like drawing an outline and then "coloring in". The possibilities are endless. These pieces make wonderful gifts to yourself or a friend and are absolutely art-to-wear! Beginner friendly.
